2012 Buick Regal GS Review

Buick unveiled the production version of the Buick Regal GS 2012, an even sportier expression of Regal sport sedan is on sale in 2010 and attracted new buyers into the family Buick. Powered by a high-performance Ecotec 2.0L turbo mated to a six-speed manual transmission, the GS offers an estimated 255 horsepower (190 kW) and 295 lb.-ft. of torque for a 0-60 mph performance in less than seven seconds (estimated). Buick interactive control of transmission is standard on the GS, allowing drivers to tailor the driving experience by changing the suspension settings and steering sensitivity between the three modes: normal, sport and GS.

"Built on the basis of performance for Regal, Buick Regal GS has been designed as an expression even more sporty performance and style," said John Schwegman, vice president of marketing for Buick. "The driving experience is alive and powerful, and GS represent the next record in the Buick product renaissance. "

Product highlights include:

Exclusive 2.0L Ecotec turbocharged and intercooled engine rated about 255 horsepower (190 kW) and 295 Nm of torque (400 Nm)

Six-speed manual, six-speed automatic with Driver Shift Control, which will be available later

Interactive System Unit Control mode with GS

The exterior has a front and rear view mirror, front fascia incorporating prominent vertical cracks and air intake grille of a specific treatment - with accents vertical elements in a metallic satin finish. The rear bumper has a pair of built-in, satin metallic trapezoidal tailpipes. Rocker extensions and rear spoiler is incorporated in the woven design. GS Cup a sporting attitude, with a ride height slightly lower than other models and aggressive 19-inch 5-twin spoke alloy spokes and all-season tires (20-inch, 5-Twin Spoke polished aluminum wheels with performance tires are optional).

Turbocharged HiPerStrut

The power of the Regal GS is a high performance version of the Ecotec 2.0-liter turbocharged DOHC VVT with direct injection. It is based on the engine will be available in the CXL Regal later this year, but the engine and the turbocharger is designed to provide a major boost pressure at SG. Production is estimated at 255 horsepower (190 kW) and 295 lb.-ft. of torque (400 Nm). An exhaust system of three inches in diameter reduces the pressure behind, resulting in higher engine power

Direct injection technology helps the engine produce more power from increasing efficiency, while maintaining fuel economy and emissions. That means less fuel consumption and emissions generated - including a drop of 25 percent cold start hydrocarbon emissions. Variable valve timing to optimize power, efficiency and emissions throughout the rpm band.

"We are combining direct injection and variable valve timing to the drive motors since 2006 and no doubt responsiveness turbo Buick Regal GS and acceleration of a 3.5-liter V6 engine, while providing fuel economy 2.0 L four, "said Mike Anderson, chief engineer, Ecotec global director of the program.

The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission as standard. A six-speed automatic transmission will be available later.

Buick Regal GS ride on a relatively long wheelbase of 107.8 inches (2738 millimeters), which offers a sophisticated and well-balanced vehicle dynamics. It also includes four-wheel independent suspension, which is unique in the High Performance Strut (HiPerStrut) suspension design of the front. HiPerStrut system helps reduce engine torque and maintain a negative camber when cornering, the driver experiences reduced torque drive, better traction and greater power curve with the sharper handling, steering precision and feedback.

A four-link independent rear suspension has been designed to minimize the side effects of camber and toe driving Spirited movement to improve vehicle stability. Front and rear shock absorbers incorporate Computer Active Damping Control (CDC), continuously variable damper properties of optimal control of the vehicle in a variety of road surfaces and profiles. Damping more aggressive and goal-oriented can also be selected through the interactive driver driving control.

Stopping power comes from a large-diameter four-wheel disc brake system Brembo front calipers. A standard, a four-channel anti-lock brakes is provided to reduce stopping distances on roads and variable conditions. The electronic parking brake is operated by a central control console. The Buick Regal GS also features standard StabiliTrak stability control with integrated traction control total.

Interactive Drive Control System

The Buick Regal GS is equipped with Drive Control System (IDCS Interactive) technology chassis (also available in other models with Regal turbocharged 2.0 L). It provides improved vehicle stability and greater driving safety. The driver can choose between three operating modes - standard, sport and GS - to change the suspension settings and steering response through the system variable effort steering.

Make a sophisticated control unit constantly monitors driving style for use with yaw rate, lateral and longitudinal acceleration, steering wheel, gas and vehicle speed. Defines the dynamic state of the vehicle, including acceleration, braking and cornering, to optimize the reaction of the substrate. It will also take all the driver options IDCS. All four dampers are electronically controlled and continuously adapt in a few milliseconds to the prevailing road conditions, vehicle movements and individual driving style.

Select the mode optimizes the GS car for driving dynamics, suspension and tight steering response. "Standard" or the default is the setting for use in all directions. Sport mode gives a level of performance between the standard modes and GS.
