At least producers of the hit film Bullitt knew what they were doing when they cast the redesigned Dodge as McQueen's foil. The 1968 Dodge Charger R/T Hemi was a muscle car with star quality.

Charger's new hidden-headlamp grille, curvy body, elegant recessed backlight, refined tail, and spare use of chrome represented a styling high point for '60s muscle cars. And in R/T form, its performance justified equal praise.
For $3,506, the R/T came with the 375-bhp 440-cid four-barrel Magnum V-8, heavy-duty brakes, R/T handling package, and F70Xl4 tires. The rear bumblebee stripe could be left off, while inside, the original Charger's space-age interior gave way to less flashy, more functional decor.
The only engine option was the mighty 426 Hemi, at $605. Chrysler strengthened it for '68, with a slightly longer-duration cam, new valve springs, and revisions that reduced oil consumption. It was still underrated at 425 bhp, but as Car and Driver marveled, "There just isn't more honest horsepower available off the showroom floor than you get from this bright orange monster."
Either engine could be hooked to a TorqueFlite automatic with a floor lever or a four-speed with a Hurst Competition-Plus shifter. Automatic was the ticket for straight-line acceleration, and Hemi cars got a special high-stall-speed torque converter (3.23:1 gears were standard). The driver could upshift at 6500 rpm, or let the TorqueFlite do it at 5500. In traffic, the Hemi could be driven like a docile small-block yet was more than half a second quicker and 10 mph faster in the quarter-mile than a 440 Charger.
The '68 model's new bucket seats lacked support, and its flying-buttress roof pillars reduced rear visibility. On R/Ts, handling was a nose-heavy chore, and such essential items as a tach, power-front disc brakes, and power steering were options. Still, Charger sales increased sixfold over '67, leaving just one question: How would McQueen have done against a Hemi?

Okay, Lamborghini. We get it. It's got 670 horsepower. It has all-wheel drive. It's really fast. It's made for China. It's a limited edition model. Did you really need to put all of that information in the name? The exclusive features of the car over the standard model perhaps takes less time to describe: An orange stripe symbolizing the "strength of an erupting volcano" (poorly timed) over flat gray paint and... well, that's about it. Lamborghini is building the suspense with news that its Murcielago successor will debut at the Geneva Motor Show. What’s more, it will feature a motorsport-derived pushrod suspension system inspired by Formula 1.

Tipped to be called the Aventador when it arrives in March, Lamborghini’s new supercar will be powered by a 690bhp V12. But the firm has clearly worked hard to ensure that the new car has the handling to match its power.

Lamborghini has worked to reduce the weight of each of the four corners of the car, by fitting lightweight aluminium double wishbones and carbon ceramic brakes. But the suspension is truly a break from the norm.

Instead of being connected vertically to the wheel mounts, the supercar’s suspension is mounted horizontally under the windscreen at the front, and close to the engine in the rear. The suspension is connected to the wheels by a series of pushrods, which Lamborghini claims should make the supercar more responsive, yet and more predictable, even when driving at high speeds.

The new suspension also includes a lifting system for the front axle, which raises the front suspension by 40mm at the touch of a button, allowing the car to negotiate speed bumps.

Finally, the firm has confirmed that the new supercar will feature electro-hydraulic steering which has three different modes which can be changed depending on driving conditions

The Dukes of Hazzard originally aired between 1979-1985 on CBS and featured one of the most recognized classic American muscle cars. The 1969 Dodge Charger R/T was named "General Lee" and owned in the show by cousins Bo and Luke Duke. The story of the General Lee began with the two cousins looking for a fixer-upper to enter a local race. They found the Dodge Charger (then black in color) with a busted front end. With the help of Cooter (the local mechanic) and their family, the Duke boys put together an orange race car with the doors welded shut (for safety), a confederate flag on the roof and a big "01" painted on the doors. The boys won the race in the Charger, a car with with classic lines and world-beater performance.
The '69 Chargers were further modified to make it through the rigors of shooting. The show went through about 200 - 300 cars during its life, many suffering severe damage thanks to the jumps and rough driving. "First Unit" cars were standard Charger R/Ts prepared for close-up shots and still photography with the actors. The "Second Unit" cars were the workhorses that did the jumps, two wheel driving, 180 degree turns and other stunts. The "Bootlegger turns" were done thanks to overinflated tires and a rigged handbrake. The jumps were done in special cars that had extra weight added to the rear, had reinforced bodies and were equipped with NASCAR style fuel cells to prevent leaks and possible accidents.

There’s a reason why, every time you trek to some inaccessible part of the world using helicopters and specialist equipment, you will arrive to find a family having a picnic on the tailgate of their 1980s Land Cruiser. It’s true. Travel to the Earth’s core and there will be a fossilised Land Cruiser down there somewhere. Put some diesel in it, slap on a new battery and it’ll probably start.

That reputation is pure gold. It comes from a long history – the first Land Cruiser was in 1954, and it was pretty much the car that Toyota itself was founded on. Luckily, that proud heritage is kept right on inthe new car, because when it comes to out-and-out reliability, off-road ability and manufacturing quality, the Land Cruiser is seriously good.
Somehow, a big Toyota doesn’tmake you flinch when you hear the underside bang and scrape like you do in a Range Rover. There’s a real feeling of inevitability to the whole thing – you are in a Land Cruiser,so nothing short of actually getting strafed from space is going to stop you getting there.
Adjustable ride height (AHC – Active Height Control) keeps you off the rocks, sensors at the wheels assess what surface you might be on (mud/sand/slope etc.) and enables adaptive ABS if a wheel spins.

There’s even that variable adaptive suspension (AVS) that, as well as attempting to iron out any road-wobble, tries as hard as possible to use the Cruiser’s impressive wheel articulation to keep the tyres in contact with the floor and maintain forward progress.
But you wouldn’t know – you just sit there and look at the view unfolding. Here, in its more natural element off-road, the Land Cruiser makes infinitely more sense. The car clicks and bumps and grumbles, but never, ever feels like stopping.
It even has pads around your knees should you bump a little too violently. And all you do is sit back, listen to the stereo and fiddle with the heated seats. I tried to get it stuck. Short of driving it off a cliff or into the sea, it was impossible.

As you’d expect for a throat-tightening pricetag, the Cruiser comes equipped with pretty much everything; four-zone climate, 14 airbags (yes, you did read that right), six-disc CD, reversing camera, leather, satnav, cooler box in the centre console, the whole nine yards.
We’re only going to get one version in the UK, and that means top-spec and V8 diesel, which is fine, as Toyota is only planning to sell about 500 in the next year to rich people who really don’t like what the proles are doing to Land Rover’s brand image.
Let’s face it, this is the anti-Range Rover Sport – no bling, little drive-by street cred, but the big daddy to those who value getting there over looking good and who couldn’t give two hoots about street racing or what the neighbours think. It’s a good car. Not for everyone and the last of a dying breed, but still good.
